Cooperation with UNOWAS: the Conseil de l’Entente aims to play a pragmatic role in maintaining peace

The Conseil de l’Entente and the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) signed a memorandum of understanding on September 29, 2026, in Abidjan to strengthen their cooperation for peace, stability, and dialogue in the region. The agreement focuses on political dialogue, conflict prevention, regional cooperation, and security developments, emphasizing the involvement of women, youth, and civil society. Implementation will require establishing a monitoring mechanism and setting priorities. UN Special Representative Leonardo Simão praised this new cooperation dynamic.
