Cooperatives are key to turning farmers into profitable businesses - Business Daily

In Kenya, despite 7.5 million registered farmers and a domestic market of over 50 million people, the country remains a net importer of agricultural products like wheat, rice, maize, sugar, and fats, totaling about 316 billion Sh. Strengthening agricultural cooperatives by providing market information, access to technology, finance, and value addition through processing and branding could boost local production, create jobs, and increase farmers' incomes. The State Department for Cooperatives is working with county governments to support pastoral livestock cooperatives, especially in arid areas, to enhance their participation in the red meat market.
