"Correct the Map": UN adopts Togolese resolution, United States alone against 164 countries

On September 4, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Togolese resolution titled "Correct the Map" with 164 votes in favor and one against, from the United States. This text, proposed by Togo, aims to encourage the use of maps that better reflect the actual dimensions of continents, particularly Africa. While the resolution does not mandate the abandonment of the Mercator projection, it calls for prioritizing models that preserve the real proportions of territories. Robert Dussey, Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, hailed this adoption as a victory for Africa and for a more equitable world.
