Cost of Living: What Senegal and the IMF Decided for Electricity

The IMF mission chief in Senegal, Vera Mercedes, clarified that energy subsidies, particularly for electricity, are essential to mitigate the impact of rising energy prices on households. These subsidies currently account for 3% of GDP, and their reduction will be gradual under a new agreement with the IMF. While their level is expected to decrease, they will not be eliminated immediately, which is crucial to avoid a sharp increase in bills for Senegalese citizens.
