Côte d’Ivoire: WHO and UNICEF hold regional workshop on young children’s diets from October 19 to 21

WHO and UNICEF opened a regional workshop in Abidjan on October 19, 2026, focused on complementary feeding for young children. Running through October 21, it brings together representatives from 15 African countries to strengthen national action, apply WHO’s 2023 recommendations and develop concrete measures to improve child nutrition. N’Goran Yoboué Patricia, national coordinator of CONANUT, called for stronger coordination among sectors and partners and stressed the importance of the first 1,000 days of life. In Côte d’Ivoire, only 21.2% of children aged 6 to 23 months have a sufficiently diverse diet, while 31.2% consume sugary drinks.

Cancer: Zézépagnon slows cancer cells from the colon, breast and prostate

Laboratory tests presented in Abidjan on October 14, 2026, by Burkinabè biochemist Richard Sawadogo indicate that Zézépagnon extracts reduce the survival of colon, breast and prostate cancer cells. The concentration that halved colon-cell viability was 56.11 micrograms per millilitre, compared with 70.10 for breast cells; prostate-cell viability fell by more than 50% at 50 micrograms per millilitre. The researchers observed no toxicity in the normal cells tested, and no acute toxicity or deaths among mice monitored for 14 days after receiving a dose of 2,000 milligrams per kilogram. They cautioned that laboratory findings do not prove the product cures cancer in people.
