Benin, under President Romuald Wadagni, aims to achieve 700,000 tons of cottonseed production for the 2026-2027 season, up from the current 500,000 tons. A bonus of 10 CFA francs per kilogram will be paid to producers if the target is met, totaling about 7 billion CFA francs. Agriculture Minister Adin Yeton Bloukounon Goubalan is holding consultations with stakeholders to address challenges such as irregular rainfall and seed quality. The cotton sector is seen as a pillar of Benin's agricultural economy.
