Mali aims to locally process at least 10% of its cotton fiber production to increase revenue. During a meeting in New York with India's permanent mission, Issa Konfourou announced this goal, though details on implementation and funding are still pending. The country plans to develop its textile industry through the SOTEX-Mali project, moving beyond raw cotton exports to include spinning, weaving, and garment manufacturing, in line with regional efforts to add value and create jobs, as most West African cotton is still exported as raw fiber.
