Counties leave Sh100bn idle as development projects stall

County governments in Kenya spent only 83.2% of the available 596.78 billion shillings during the year ending June 2026, leaving 100.2 billion shillings unspent. Of 189 development projects worth 10.51 billion shillings, many have stalled, exposing a widening gap between approved budgets and actual implementation. Budget Controller Margaret Nyakang’o states that weak execution of development budgets hampers local economic growth.
