Court fines plaintiff N1m over delay in Jonathan 2027 suit

A Federal High Court in Abuja fined plaintiff Johnmary Jideobi N1 million for delaying a case aimed at preventing former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election. Justice Peter Lifu criticized both the plaintiff and his lawyer for their lack of diligence. The case was adjourned until May 18, 2026, with instructions for the plaintiff to serve court documents on the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Attorney-General within two hours of the ruling.
