Court jails ex-Benue Varsity student as school speaks tough on security

The Chief Security Officer of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Gbehe Simon Ingbian, announced that Victor Dzer, a former Economics student, was arrested on July 14, 2026, for vandalizing a component of an air-conditioning unit belonging to the university. He was prosecuted before Magistrate Court 9, Makurdi, convicted, and sentenced to one year imprisonment without the option of a fine. Ingbian reiterated the institution's zero-tolerance policy against vandalism and theft. Director of Information Funmilayo Augustina Tolufashe commended the security unit's vigilance.
