Court removes Uzodinma as APC senatorial candidate for Imo West

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to stop presenting himself as the APC’s senatorial candidate for Imo West. The court ruled that Uzodinma did not win the party’s May 18 primary and that former governor Rochas Okorocha received the majority of votes. Egwuatu ordered the APC to submit Okorocha’s name to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and directed INEC to accept and publish him as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections. The judge found that most documents used to nominate Uzodinma had been fabricated in violation of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act.

The wounded were taken to a local medical facility, and their condition remains worrying. The attacks came amid clashes between the Congolese army (FARDC), backed by Wazalendo, and the FRN, as the army seeks to retake areas of Walikale.
