The National Industrial Court of Nigeria nullified federal circulars enforcing an eight-year tenure policy on education directors, ruling they conflict with the Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers Act 2022. Justice O.Y. Anuwe ruled in favor of Rakiya Gambo Iliyasu, a Grade Level 17 Director who challenged the directives. The court held that teachers and education officers are entitled to remain in service until age 65 or 40 years of pensionable service, even as directors.
