Crackdown on Illegal Mining Companies in South Kivu

The national Ministry of Mines has strengthened measures to clean up the mining sector in South Kivu by establishing an ad hoc commission to verify the compliance of companies in Mwenga, Fizi, Uvira, Baraka, and Shabunda. Mining operators are required to present legal documents, mining titles, and evidence of mineral traceability during hearings. This initiative follows complaints about illegal mining activities and overlapping mining titles in the region.
