Crisis in South Sudan: Salva Kiir dismisses Assembly president accused of corruption

Salva Kiir dismissed Jemma Nunu Kumba, the president of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, and her vice president, Permena Awerial Aluong, due to corruption allegations related to the management of parliamentary funds. Kumba, who made history in 2021 as the first woman to hold this position, has not yet responded to the allegations. Kiir appointed Joseph Ngere Paciko as the new president of the Assembly and Abuk Paiti Ayiik as vice president, amid frequent reshuffles and speculation regarding his succession.
