CS Wandayi Halts Payments in Ksh4.8B Fuel Scandal Orders Fuel Removal

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi announced that fuel prices could rise by Ksh14 per litre due to an unauthorized importation of super petrol. A 60,000-metric-tonne consignment was brought into the country in violation of established procedures, costing Ksh198,000 per tonne compared to Ksh140,000 under the Government-to-Government agreement. Wandayi ordered the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to exclude this consignment from monthly petroleum product cost calculations and froze payments related to it pending investigations.
