Geordin Hill-Lewis, Democratic Alliance (DA) federal leader and Cape Town mayor, said he was encouraged by polls putting his party ahead in several major South African metros. After voting at Edgemead Primary School, he said the DA could win the three Gauteng metros, Nelson Mandela Bay and Cape Town, while cautioning that polls have margins of error. The polls cited place the MKP ahead in eThekwini, while Buffalo City is another exception to the DA’s reported lead. Hill-Lewis also said crime, including gang violence in Cape Town’s hardest-hit communities, was a major concern for families.
