Daloa fish sellers protest rising prices as prefect urges calm

Fish sellers and other women protested in Daloa on October 21, 2026, against repeated price increases, entering several cold-storage facilities and trying to stop their operators from working. Damage was also reported. Lago Liliane, president of the women fish sellers, said Apolo fish had risen from 19,000 to 35,000 francs and Sosso from 18,000 to 46,000, threatening sellers’ incomes and household purchasing power. Aka Marcel, head of the Haut-Sassandra cold-storage operators, condemned the vandalism and cited international factors, while prefect Yacouba Doumbia urged calm and announced measures to investigate price changes.
