DCI to Summon Politicians Linked to Goons Ahead of 2027 Elections

Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) plans to summon politicians suspected of paying or employing gangs involved in attacks on their opponents. George Matonya, the DCI’s Nyanza regional coordinator, said investigators had identified politicians linked to the violence and could take them to court if there is sufficient evidence. The DCI also plans to work with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. Police had previously said they would recommend barring 2027 election candidates with records of promoting or perpetrating violence.
