DCI Tracks Down Suspect Linked to Electricity Meter Theft Syndicate in Kawangware

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a suspect in Nairobi’s Kawangware area on Sunday during an operation with Kenya Power targeting the theft and illicit trade of electrical equipment. Police recovered 12 suspected stolen meters from the suspect’s home and secured them as exhibits; the suspect is in custody awaiting arraignment. Days earlier, two other suspects were arrested in Lucky Summer, where meters and assorted Kenya Power equipment were recovered. Kenya’s Energy Act provides for a fine of up to Ksh1 million, up to one year in prison, or both for theft of power equipment.
