Death of Hippopotamuses in Semuliki River at Beni: ICCN Warns Local Residents

Several hippopotamus carcasses have been found along the Semuliki River in Beni. ICCN confirmed that the cause of death is anthrax bacterial charbon, following joint analysis with Virunga National Park veterinarians. The institute advises residents not to touch, move, or consume the meat or carcasses, and to keep children, livestock, and pets away from contaminated sites, while reporting any new carcass discoveries to authorities.
