Democrat Amy Acton beats Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio governor’s race

Amy Acton won the Ohio governor’s race, defeating Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. A physician and former top health official under outgoing Governor Mike DeWine, she faced heavy criticism over her handling of the Covid-19 pandemic; campaign spending exceeded $100 million. A controversial ad featuring her estranged mother prompted fierce backlash against Ramaswamy, who took responsibility for it and refused to pull it. Acton is Ohio’s first Democratic governor since 2006 and the first woman elected to the office.
