Democrat Annie Andrews flips South Carolina’s Senate seat

Annie Andrews won South Carolina’s US Senate seat, giving Democrats their first victory in the state since 1998, according to the Associated Press. She defeated Republican Darline Graham in a state regarded as a strong Republican stronghold, despite President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Graham. Andrews outraised her opponent by more than $22 million, primarily through grassroots donations, and pledged to accept no money from corporate political action committees. Her campaign focused on lowering costs for working families, expanding affordable healthcare, protecting reproductive rights and opposing endless wars.
