Democrat Troy Jackson wins Maine US Senate seat in blow to Republicans

Troy Jackson, a former Maine Senate president and labour organiser, defeated Republican Susan Collins, who had held the seat since 1997. His win flips a seat Republicans had held for 30 years. The closely watched race featured heavy spending and attacks over Collins’s ties to Donald Trump and Jackson’s lack of federal experience. Jackson campaigned on strengthening the economy and improving government accountability.
