Democrats deliver a historic routing to Republicans in US midterms

US voters dealt President Donald Trump and Republicans a major setback in the November 3, 2026, midterm elections. Democrats retook the House of Representatives and flipped at least six Senate seats, giving them control of both chambers of Congress. Hakeem Jeffries, poised to become the first Black speaker of the House, hailed the results and declared that a “great American comeback” was beginning. Trump sought to distance himself from the losses, posting that he had not been on the ballot.
