Has Poor Governance Become a Profitable Investment in Cameroon?

On October 5, 2026, an enforcement judge in Paris rejected the Cameroonian state’s requests to overturn the case and upheld the seizure of 11.7 billion CFA francs (€17.8 million) in Cameroonian assets held in France. The ruling marks another legal setback for Yaoundé and raises questions about who benefits from the state’s financial losses. The dispute dates back to a November 14, 2001, lease contract between the state and Projet Pilote Garoubé (PPG) for the operation of a ranch and agro-activities.

Illegal gold mining in Siguiri: Conakry bans all mining in waterways

Guinea’s ministries responsible for defense, territorial administration, security, the environment and mines have banned mining in waterways and along their banks, as well as on farmland, pastureland, classified forests and near settlements in Siguiri. A permanent deployment of defense and security forces is checking roads and waterways to prevent the transport of dredges and chemicals; only licensed buying offices may purchase and sell gold from the area. The measures follow the suspension of 22 local officials and findings of soil damage, pollution and siltation affecting the Niger, Tinkisso, Niandan and Fié rivers and their tributaries.

Rainbow Coalition Critics Can’t Unite Their Families, Wike Says

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike defended the Rainbow Coalition, which brings together APC and PDP political figures to promote unity and development in Abuja. At the commissioning of the Gwagwalada Civic Centre, he said politicians denying the alliance’s existence could not unite their own families and communities. Wike urged residents to support former senator Philip Aduda and other coalition-endorsed candidates, and to vote for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. Local APC and PDP leaders praised Wike for fostering political cooperation and reviving a project in Gwagwalada that had been abandoned for 16 years.
