Diphtheria in Senegal: 25 confirmed cases and four deaths in seven districts

Since July 21, 2026, a diphtheria epidemic has been declared in Senegal, affecting 25 people across seven health districts, including Kédougou, Saraya, Mbour, Salémata, Guédiawaye, Kébémer, and Touba. Four deaths have been recorded, and two patients are currently hospitalized. Symptoms include tonsillitis, fever, cough, and sore throat, and health authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
