DNA and fingerprint checks find no matches for six South Africans missing in Nepal floods

DNA tests and fingerprint comparisons have not identified any of the six South Africans missing after the deadly August 26 floods in the Nepal-China border region. South African High Commissioner Anil Sooklal said Nepalese authorities had found more than 1,400 people dead, while over 6,000 remained missing. The missing South Africans are Surendranath and Anita Devi Maharaj, Vivaganathan “Tony” and Janet Pillay, Bavika Ramjee, and Terricia Govender. Nepal has reduced the wait to legally declare missing victims dead from 12 years to 45 days, helping families obtain death certificates and settle estates.
