Domestic crisis: Violence tearing Lagos homes apart

In 2026, domestic violence in Lagos has reached alarming levels, with approximately 33,009 cases reported between late 2021 and mid-2026. DSVA Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, noted that 90% of domestic violence victims are women, while men account for about 10%. Marital disputes, often linked to economic pressures and mental health issues, are escalating into physical violence, resulting in injuries and police interventions.
