DR Congo blocks all senior army officers from traveling abroad

The Democratic Republic of Congo has suspended overseas travel applications for all generals and senior FARDC officers until further notice, revoking unused authorizations as well. In an order dated October 15, Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita instructed the army chief of staff to enforce the measure, following President Félix Tshisekedi’s directives at the October 14 Superior Defense Council meeting. The decision came after former president Joseph Kabila announced the Front pour la Refondation de la Nation in Goma on October 12, a movement involving figures linked to the former AFC alliance, including Corneille Nangaa and Bertrand Bisimwa. The defense letter does not mention the FRN or possible defections, and there is no publicly established evidence that the restriction was imposed to stop officers joining the movement.
