DR Congo: FRN rebels and the army clash in the Luvungi mountains (Uvira territory)

Heavy clashes between RFN rebels and the FARDC, with both sides supported by allies, were reported in Mugobe and several villages in the Itara-Luvungi groupement in South Kivu’s Ruzizi Plain. ACTUALITE.CD sources said attacks on FARDC and Wazalendo positions began around 8 a.m. and spread to Rugobagoba, Kamonyi and Lubarika in Uvira territory. The gunfire prompted some schools to send students home and disrupted economic activity and traffic between Bukavu and Uvira. After the AFC/M23 withdrew from Uvira and the Ruzizi Plain in December 2025, fighters had taken positions in villages near Mugobe and on the Kigoma highlands.
