DR Congo: Justice minister orders investigation after threats by UDPS official

DR Congo’s Justice Minister, Guillaume Ngefa, ordered an investigation into remarks by Fils Mukoko, an UDPS official and acting director general of RASKIN, who threatened to distribute weapons to young people and target Western nationals in Kinshasa. Government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya condemned the statements, said they did not represent the government or other institutions, and announced measures to protect diplomatic missions. The Superior Council for Audiovisual and Communication imposed an 88-day media embargo on Mukoko and summoned him for a hearing. The remarks come amid diplomatic tensions between DR Congo and Belgium.
