DR Congo: Moïse Katumbi tried in absentia at night before the Court of Cassation

The Court of Cassation began hearing the case between Moïse Katumbi and his older half-brother, Raphaël Katebe Katoto, in Kinshasa on Monday evening. Katumbi, who is in exile, was absent, and his defense says he is not subject to the jurisdiction of that court. Since 2024, Katebe Katoto has accused the former governor of Katanga of taking several of his properties in Haut-Katanga, including a villa in Lubumbashi and farms; Katumbi's associates reject the allegations. The opposition leader's allies denounced what they called a “real black mass” intended to sideline a political rival, while Katebe Katoto, an ally of Félix Tshisekedi, supports keeping the president in power beyond 2028.
