Food squeezes households as inflation hits 6.6pc

Kenya's consumer prices rose by 6.6% in August, continuing an upward trend driven by rising food and transport costs. The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reported that food prices increased by 9.0% and transport costs by 15.7%, together accounting for 4.1 percentage points of overall inflation. This situation is worsened by Middle East conflicts and lower-than-expected agricultural yields.
