DRC: 26 years after the adoption of Resolution 1325, women urged to strengthen their role in peace processes

The Democratic Republic of the Congo marked the 26th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in Kinshasa on November 3, at a gathering of nearly 240 women and young aspiring politicians, alongside institutional and civil society representatives. Organized by CAFOD and its partners through the “TUFAULU PAMOJA – Succeeding Together” project, the event called for greater awareness, funding and implementation of the resolution at every level of governance. Gender and development consultant Annie Matundu identified limited ownership, insufficient funding and continuing insecurity as key barriers. She also cited gains in women’s representation, including 17 women among 53 government members, 17% representation in the Senate and 19% in local bodies.
