DRC: 3 Years of Severe Floods but No Consolidated Economic Assessment Unlike Other Hydrological Disasters Worldwide

Flooding in the DRC has lasted for three consecutive years, with a human toll of 165 deaths in 2025, over 7,000 displaced persons, and 60,000 affected residents in Kinshasa. The floods, caused by heavy rains, sudden floods, the overflow of the N'djili River, and landslides, mainly impacted the capital. However, no consolidated economic assessment has been provided, unlike other global hydrological disasters, due to a lack of data on damages and financial losses. The World Meteorological Organization emphasizes the need to improve data collection and sharing to better anticipate and manage these risks.
