DRC: After Kabila–Swan meeting, FRN voices reservations about renewing MONUSCO’s mandate and possible redeployment to South Kivu

In Goma, the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), led by Joseph Kabila, met with MONUSCO chief James Swan. Bertrand Bisimwa said the FRN supports the Doha peace process but opposes renewing the mission’s mandate and any possible redeployment to South Kivu, while distinguishing that position from MONUSCO’s logistical role in ceasefire monitoring. The movement also urged the UN to intervene with Félix Tshisekedi over a proposed constitutional change, which it says would collapse the Doha process. Bisimwa further accused government forces and their allies of resuming attacks on several fronts in the east, including Katogota, Mwenga, Shabunda and Masisi.

The FRN reaffirmed its commitment to the Doha peace process, while accusing Kinshasa of failing to honor its commitments. The International Contact Group for the Great Lakes region has called for dialogue to resolve the crisis in the DRC.
