DRC-Agriculture: Muhindo Nzangi says 1,107 young people received funding from the USD 17 million held at the BCC

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Muhindo Nzangi Butondo told the National Assembly that 1,107 young people had received funding through the PEJAB, following a USD 17 million agreement between the African Development Bank and the Central Bank of Congo. A total of 3,174 young people were trained out of the 3,600 planned, while only 11 businesses had been created after seven years, against a target of 1,200. Nzangi cited low disbursements by a partner bank and delays to the BAD’s first payment among the factors behind the project’s poor performance. Although the project ended in December 2025, he said pending applications were still being processed by microfinance institutions and USD 8 million remained at the central bank awaiting transfer.
