DRC: An 'Independent' Civil Society Committee Established to Monitor Governance of the Kivu-Goma-Kinshasa Green Corridor

An independent civil society committee was established in Kinshasa by a consortium of 8 organizations to monitor governance of the Kivu-Goma-Kinshasa Green Corridor. The committee, in partnership with the Virunga Foundation, will oversee community participation, rights protection, and economic opportunities for local and indigenous peoples. It will help develop a participatory governance manual, manage complaints, and issue recommendations or alerts. The Virunga Foundation has committed to cooperating by providing information and considering its opinions.
