DRC and Sudan record highest IDP numbers

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sudan recorded the highest numbers of internally displaced people in Africa, according to the Global Report on Internal Displacement 2026. In 2025, the DRC displaced 9.7 million people, nearly one-third of the global total. Sudan, with 9.1 million displaced individuals, remains the world's largest internal displacement crisis, despite a decrease compared to previous years.
