DRC: At least 165 deaths in floods in 2025, third consecutive year of severe floods

In 2025, floods in the Democratic Republic of Congo resulted in at least 165 deaths, displaced over 7,000 people, and affected more than 60,000 residents in Kinshasa, according to a report by the World Meteorological Organization. The capital was heavily impacted in early April by sudden floods, the overflow of the Ndjili River, and landslides, which were among the major hydrological disasters worldwide that year. The DRC experienced severe flooding for three consecutive years, amid regional patterns of similar events in West and Central Africa.
