A FAO report warns that replacing wild meat with domestic meat could harm the nutrition of poor households in certain forest communities in the DRC and Cameroon. Wild meat and local fish account for an average of 74% of animal-based foods among children under five during the rainy season, providing significant amounts of protein, iron, zinc, and vitamin B12. The FAO emphasizes that these foods are vital for food security among impoverished families and that their replacement could negatively impact their nutrition if no affordable nutritional alternatives are provided.
