DRC: Ebola, conflicts, displacements and competition for natural resources, UN warns of a « painful tangle of crises »

The UN highlighted that the Democratic Republic of Congo is facing a « painful tangle of crises » including a Ebola outbreak, armed conflicts, large-scale population displacements, and competition over natural resources. The Ebola epidemic, the deadliest in the country's history, has surpassed 8,000 confirmed cases and 3,900 deaths, mainly affecting Ituri and North Kivu provinces. The situation worsens the fragility of the health system, hindered by conflict, chronic underinvestment, and ongoing insecurity, complicating efforts to control the outbreak.
