DRC: facing Ebola, the Catholic Church suspends gatherings and funerals with bodies in the Butembo-Beni diocese

The Catholic Church has decided to suspend large gatherings and funeral masses with the deceased's body in the Butembo-Beni diocese. This decision is made due to the resurgence of the Ebola virus disease in the cities of Butembo, Beni, and surrounding areas. The bishop of the diocese, Mgr Sikuli Paluku Melchisédech, has also recommended the installation of handwashing stations or water points at the entrances of Churches. Health authorities and politicians continue to raise awareness for the respect of barrier measures.
