DRC: Families flee displacement site after military operation, UN fears impact on Ebola response

Families fled the Kigonze displacement site in Bunia, DRC, following a military operation on September 20-21 involving gunfire and a fire that destroyed several shelters. The dispersal of displaced persons hampers Ebola surveillance, as the site, which housed nearly 19,000 people, has been heavily emptied. UN humanitarian coordinator Damien Mama stated that insecurity hampers humanitarian access and could jeopardize the Ebola response efforts.
