DRC: In Beni, displaced pygmy families survive far from their forest

In Boikene, in northern Beni, pygmy families are living in precarious conditions after fleeing attacks by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) since May 2026. They left behind their homes and forest, which were essential for their livelihood. Apolline Apusome, a displaced person, recounts nights spent on the ground, without protection from the elements. Fear and urgency characterized their departure, leaving behind tragic memories of violence.
