DRC: IRDH’s Hubert Tshiswaka questions decades-long reliance on foreign countries to resolve Congolese crises

Following the Congolese opposition coalition C64 conference in Rome, held from October 25 to 27, IRDH director Hubert Tshiswaka Masoka criticized the reliance on foreign countries to resolve crises in the DRC. He identified three structural problems: concentrated power, dependence on foreign actors, and the use of force to gain or retain power. In Rome, Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, Jean-Marc Kabund, Augustin Matata Ponyo, and Delly Sesanga opposed constitutional changes that could undermine presidential term limits, allow a third term, or delay the 2028 elections. C64 also called for inclusive national dialogue with Félix Tshisekedi and Joseph Kabila, political de-escalation, and independent investigations into violence.

Ahead of Ogun State’s governorship election on February 6, 2027, Labour Party South-West National Vice Chairman Arabambi Abayomi and Action Alliance candidate Awofala Awoniyi Awolola threatened legal action over an alleged attempt to alter the PDP membership register. They asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate an affidavit reportedly explaining why Oladipupo Adebutu was missing from the register submitted before the PDP primary held on May 24, 2026. The politicians said the register, certified by INEC on July 20, should not be amended retrospectively through an affidavit, and urged the commission to preserve it and investigate any improper interference with its records. They requested a response from INEC within 24 hours of receiving their letter.
