DRC: Judicial investigation opened into Kenge plane crash

DRC Justice Minister Guillaume Ngefa announced the opening of a judicial investigation following the plane crash on September 25, 2026, in Kenge, Kwango province. The accident resulted in 17 deaths, including two high-ranking military officials: Lieutenant-General Mutombo Katalay Tiende Joseph and Lieutenant-General Likulia Bakumi Lucien René. The aircraft, a Let-410 operated by Tracep, was on a rotation from Ndolo to Kikwit, Ilebo, and Kinshasa, and crashed in Kenge while returning from Kikwit without prior coordination with N’Djili tower. Security and technical services have been tasked with determining the causes of the crash.
