Pensioners condemn exclusion from ₦70,000 transport relief

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), led by Godwin Abumisi, condemned the exclusion of retirees from the ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance approved for six months for public servants from November 2026. The union accused the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress of overlooking pensioners, who also face rising living costs and inadequate pensions. It also demanded payment of the ₦25,000 monthly palliative promised in 2023 to 15 million households, including vulnerable pensioners, and asked the relevant ministry to explain the delay. The NUP urged President Bola Tinubu to extend the transport allowance to eligible retirees or provide equivalent support, warning it may pursue legal avenues.

Balad leader blasts ‘racist’ exclusion of Arab parties in Israel

Sami Abu Shehadeh, leader of the Balad party, condemned Israel’s main political leaders for refusing to form a coalition with Arab parties despite their record election showing. Abu Shehadeh said Palestinian citizens of Israel, about a fifth of the population, are being treated as illegitimate partners. His candidacy was disqualified at the request of Itamar Ben-Gvir, who accused him of supporting the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack; Abu Shehadeh denied supporting armed struggle and said he intended to call for a political process.
