DRC: UN condemns killing of nurse involved in Ebola response in Bafwasende and calls for investigation

The United Nations Office of the Senior Coordinator for the Ebola Response, led by Julien Harneis, condemned the killing of a nurse in Bafwasende, Tshopo province, on October 24, 2026, and called for a thorough investigation. Young people attacked the nurse and a primary school director, both involved in the response, accusing them of spreading the virus in a water source; the nurse died at the scene and the director was seriously injured. Dr. Likilo Marcel, head of the Bafwasende health zone, reported other recent attacks on health workers and their relatives. The UN urged communities to protect health workers and allow them to work safely.
