DRC: UN records 4,400 human rights violations between January and September 2026 and at least 1,080 victims of sexual violence between June 2025 and May 2026

The UN recorded approximately 4,400 human rights violations in eastern DRC, mainly in North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri, from January 1 to September 15, 2026, affecting around 9,500 victims. These violations include illegal homicides, restrictions on civil liberties, and breaches of international humanitarian law. Additionally, at least 1,080 victims of conflict-related sexual violence, mostly women and children, were documented between June 2025 and May 2026, with 74% caused by armed groups.
